Welcome to the ninth edition. 11/01/2006
After gathering the information for the Resource Page for the Wenatchee,
WA camera club (Photography Association of Wenatchee - PAW) I've come to
the realization that the page is now too long and some entries don't go
into enough detail.

I'll have a chance here to tell more about my personal involvement with
photography. If you haven't visited my web site "Eleanor's Travels",
here's the HOME PAGE.

November 1, 2006 - Home from my month long
"trip of a lifetime" to the Australian outback. In a nutshell
the first two weeks were spent traveling the Gibb River Road in the Kimberley
region of Western Australia (that's a state). The third week was spent
doing various day-trips out of Darwin in the Northern Territory. The
final week was spent with friends in Melbourne in the state of Victoria.
During this time I was able to revisit parts of the Great
Ocean Road,
which I had seen last year in less than good weather. I'll get the new
ones up soon, showing a bright sunny day and beautiful waves. Forthcoming
slideshows will include: Strange Rock Formations, Aboriginal Rock Art
(I'm very happy with this collection), Flightseeing over the Mitchell
Plateau and the Bungle Bungles,
Echidna Gorge as well as Catherdral
Gorge -revisited and several others. (These links all go to
last year's photo slideshows. My trip covered the
area on this map. We stayed in the four wilderness camps mentioned
on that page. We traveled in a 20 passenger 4 wheel drive air conditioned
truck. There were 13 in the group.
I was pleased again to only take my new SONY DSC-H2. I did not shoot
RAW (now I wish I had) nor did I take a tripod. The first three weeks
were extremely hot, well over 100 everyday, so a big jug for water was
the most important item to carry. Coping with the heat was a struggle
in itself! Luckily I took along an Epson P-2000 viewer to dump my filled
cards into, because my laptop gave up early in the trip. None of the
safari camps had powerpoints.
First Slide Show: Australian
Aboriginal Rock Art These were not particularly
easy to photograph. I used a flash for a few and, of course, did some
tweaking with Paint Shop Pro. My workflow
was quite simple: I cropped and resized to 600 x 400, touched up the
exposure with a histogram adjustment, used Clarify set at 1 occasionally,
then Unsharp Mask: Radius 1.00, Strength 50% and Clipping at 5. Finally
I set the JPEG optimizer compression at 25 0r 30 to produce files between
60 and 100kb. I did nothing to alter the colors.
So, I imagine now, after six trips to Australia, I have covered all
I need to,
some places several times. New slideshows will be forthcoming
soon.

fine article "Reflections on Photography & Art -5 The Eye

If you are serious about landscape photography you will want to explore
this site thoroughly! A good starting point would be here with
this series of essays.
