Eleanor's PhotoBlog - Issue #5

Welcome to the fifth edition.    9/09/2006
After gathering the information for the Resource Page for the Wenatchee, WA camera club (Photography Association of Wenatchee - PAW) I've come to the realization that the page is now too long and some entries don't go into enough detail.

I'll have a chance here to tell more about my personal involvement with photography. If you haven't visited my web site "Eleanor's Travels", here's the HOME PAGE.

In the first issue I stated that I wanted to go into more detail about the offerings of these three 'photography' web sites:

All three are outstanding and if possible you should bookmark them and take a look at least weekly. With all three it is easy to get lost in the vast amount of material that each contains (as it is getting with my own site, I'm afraid).

Alain's is the easiet to navigate and is the most attractive. the Home page is updated on a regular basis. There are Essays, Articles & Reviews to keep you reading (and thinking) for days. This page "Thoughts & Photographs + Craft & Techique is a bit buried but is a very important offering. Don't fail to look over these interesting articles. And don't go here without a thorough look at Alain's truly fine photo-galleries.

The Luminous Landscape by Michael Reichmann is another fine source of material, but again is difficult to navigate until you're used to it. You'll want to see "Briot's View" - more Columns and Articles on Photography by Alain Briot. The Tutorials that Michael has written are organized alphbetically so you really have to spend too much time finding those that are appropriate to your needs. The same is true for the Essays and Product Reviews. On the Home Page and at the top of the other pages the drop-down arrows are confusing. I'm especially impressed with the "Understanding" Series - these are truly worth your time. Check out Workshops by many photographers on this page.

Outback Photo by Uwe and Bettina Steinmueller is excellent also but the most confusing of the three. The home page must have over 100 links on it as well as Ads by Google. But don't be thrown off by the complexity of this site. On the right side they've got a section for Camers/Printers, Series, Galleries, Editorial and Artist Portfolios. The Digital Outback Photo books (e-books) are worth considering as well as the other links in the left hand column. You'll find the most and best information on the subject of RAW Conversion on this site. Here's a link to their Galleries - California Earthframes - images much more subtle than Alain's! And here's another good place to start if you like their style (I do!). Fine Art Photography

One more 'can't-do-without-it' site: Digital Photography Review Explore the links on the left. You just have to read the Reviews if you're planning on purchasing new equipment! I've printed out their reviews when I've acquired a new camera... the best way to learn about it quickly before approaching the dreaded manual.

If you wish to contribute articles and/or links to materials for inclusion please feel free to do so.
