Welcome to the 18th edition. 5/20/2007Home after a fine, but too short, week of photography in the Moab, Utah area. There's something to be said for going back to previously known spots if you don't have too much time. I knew the motel, the restaurants, the ATM machine and where to get deli sandwichs for each day's lunch. It's an easy two hour drive from Grand Junction, Colorado to Moab ... the second half down the Colorado River Canyon with grand scenery all around, espcially the Fisher Tower formation. This stretch of road needs to be driven several times each way to appreciate all its special attractions. I admit that I never did get 'the shot' which needs to be taken late in the afternoon from the other side of the formation. but at least you can tell that it is a fantastic area for scenery. For the first afternoon and evening I hired the services of Moab Photo Tours, lead by Jon Fuller, to take me to places off the beaten path with a four wheel drive truck. What an excellent time I had, the weather was perfect and Jon was willing to help me up and down some slopes that I couldn't have done otherwise. (My knee repacement hasn't limbered up completely yet.) Be sure to read Jon's bio - he's been involved with Moab Paper for fine art printing. If you enjoy red rock formations as much as I do you'll enjoy his gallery photos as well. Quoted from his bio:"He has a great sense of humor, loves meeting people, and works hard to ensure that you have an enjoyable and safe experience with Moab Photo Tours, while working to help you get the ‘shot of a lifetime.’ He loves to share his knowledge of photography and the Moab area with anyone who will listen!"
If you read several of these pages before you know how keen I am about the SONY DSC line of point and shoot cameras. For my trip to Australia last fall I took along the DSC H5, loved it so much that I purchased the H9 reviewed here by DPReview I loved it for lowdown flowers and grasses because of its 3" tilt viewer (monitor).
