Eleanor's PhotoBlog - Issue #16

Welcome to the sixteenth edition.      3/20/2006 updated April 14, 2007

My knee replacement surgery is finally healing well and I'm at least back to my website but not to getting out for photography. {:> (

George Barr's essays in the series of
Talking Your Photography to the Next Level -
a must read!
Here's  Part I     Part II   Part III

I purchased Adobe Photoshop LightRoom v.1 just as soon as it came out. I don't begin to understand it very well quite yet, but I have found some truly excellent resources:

  • Video Tutorials by Michael Tapes of RAWWORKFLO.COM - presently offers 11 video segments with more to come. FREE Michael Tapes Videos

  • A 4.5 Hour Multi-Segment Training Video with Michael Reichmann and Jeff Schewe. Read about this video series here. $14.95 is a more than fair price - download each segment to view several times. Read this excellent independent review.

  • Lightroom Illuminated - another article by Michael Reichmann which discusses his current workflow. The last photo becomes a Quicktime video which is very significant, especially for learning how to use TAT both for color and Black and White. After watching this you will realize why you can produce much better black and white photos from a RAW (color) capture than shooting B & W in the first place.

  • PhotoPresets for Photoshop Lightroom by Jack Davis from onOne software. There is an especially good video which explains the function of these presets (85 in all). Full Movie (26:30, 40 MB)

In this one example you can see that I have chosen to adjust both
    the orange and yellow colors.
On the left you can see some of the onOne software presets.

Review from Outback Photo Uwe Steinmueller

    Photoshop Lightroom Design Center -
    many more videos!

11 introductory movies from Lynda .com
    Photoshop Lightroom Essential Training
You don't have to purchase the whole set of the tutorial
videos to learn quite a bit about the program.

There aren't very many books about Lightroom v.1 out yet
but Martin Evening's is. I can't imagine that any of the rest,
due out in a month or two, will compare.
The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book: The Complete
    Guide for Photographers (Paperback)

Scott Kelby's book will be out in a while but frankly I'm a bit
tired of his sense of humor and writing style.
He might be waiting for v.1? to be finalized.

Tim Grey informs me that his new Lightroom book
    is available from Amazon:

    The Digital Photographer's Guide (Paperback)

I've not done this before but I'd like to make you aware of a fine camera that will be out on
    June 11, 2007

Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 8MP Digital Camera with 15x Optical Image Stabilization Zoom

I've raved about an earlier version the DSC-H5
that I used exclusively for my month long trip to Australia last October. If you want a relatively light weight camera with a Carl Zeiss 15x optical zoom lens and 3.0-inch LCD display this could be the camera for you. Follow the link to a fine description from Amazon.

My DSC H5 is for sale! ! !

After gathering the information for the Resource Page for the Wenatchee, WA camera club (Photography Association of Wenatchee - PAW) I've come to the realization that the page is now too long and some entries don't go into enough detail.

I'll have a chance here to tell more about my personal involvement with photography. If you haven't visited my web site "Eleanor's Travels", here's the HOME PAGE.
