Eleanor's PhotoBlog - Issue #12

12/03/2006
After gathering the information for the Resource Page for the Wenatchee, WA camera club (Photography Association of Wenatchee - PAW) I've come to the realization that the page is now too long and some entries don't go into enough detail.
PAW Resource Page

I'll have a chance here to tell more about my personal involvement with photography. If you haven't visited my web site "Eleanor's Travels", here's the HOME PAGE. There are several slideshows of my recent month-long trip to Australia.

I'll be teaching three different photography classes after the turn of the year (with an up coming total knee replacement fitted in as well! In preparation I've got a new computer setup that I can take to the studio where the classes will be held. I'll use my laptop of course, with a new Gateway 21" widescreen LCD monitor, which not only goes up and down several inches but also swivels as well.... a perfect setup for classroom use. Today was "new toy" day too. I'll be teaching a class din printing using inkjet printers and I refuse to haul around my Epson R2400 so I purchased th epson Stylus Photo R340. Took it out of the box set it up ... two great prints immediately. And I'm so impressed with Epson Premium Glossy paper and will try the Ultra Premium, or is it Premium Ultra? I can't imagine anythng better than what I'm using now! could there be a more difficult image to use for testing printers? This is from my first day in the 'outback' of Australia early in October. Using your monitor can you see detail in the black rocks?

Print for Testing

Teaching photography these days often boils down sending the students out on the Internet to look at all the incredible resources available. In dealing with image editing programs I'm going to introduce them to both Photoshop Elements 5 and Paint Shop Pro v.X. though I've had Photoshop for years I've never really learned it ... if relied on Paint Shop Pro so much. with the ability to setup a custom made tool bar I work so much more quickly. Now I'm going to forse myself to learn Elements 5 so I can offer it as a choice: "You don't have to have Photoshop!". Yesterday's mail brought "The Missing Manual" for PE5. Excellent presentation! I've used this series of books for other software programs and have always enjoyed them. Lynda.com offers Photoshop Elements 5 Essential Training with Deke McClelland, which I will strongly recommend. I'd love to have readers of this blog to suggest other resources they have used to learn either of these two image editing programs.
