Eleanor's PhotoBlog - Issue #10

Welcome to the seventh edition.     11/10/2006
After gathering the information for the Resource Page for the Wenatchee, WA camera club (Photography Association of Wenatchee - PAW) I've come to the realization that the page is now too long and some entries don't go into enough detail.

I'll have a chance here to tell more about my personal involvement with photography. If you haven't visited my web site "Eleanor's Travels", here's the HOME PAGE.

I've been home from my recent trip to Australia for about two weeks now and I'm struggling with how to get my images seen. Of course, I will enjoy them more than any one else. I'll bet that most photographers, amateurs and professionals alike struggle with this as well, just as composers want their music performed, painters - their paintings seen etc. We want to share, be recognized, receive nice comments  {;> ) we all have egos. From this particular trip I am most pleased with my collection of Aboriginal Rock Art photos. I'd done quite a bit of reading beforehand and believe that my relatively small collection is excellent - much clearer, with larger samples than most. Often the photos are a bit brighter than the original .... it was a decision I had to make. See for yourself what you think. Some were extremely hard to do, hidden away in dark places. I hope it doesn't take Google too long to index them. Without going on a guided tour I would not have had the opportunity to see them at all.

Aboriginal Rock Art

My fascination with odd and strange rock formations persists as seen with this slideshow set:
Unusual Rock Formations.  Most would walk right on by this example, I'm sure. But it truly is one of my favorites.

Returning to several places that I had been to in March of 2004 was worthwhile because I knew what to expect and tried to get significant new images. The flightseeing trip in a helicopter (with NO doors) was a grand experience, so much better than in a small plane, as I had done previously. Bungle Bungle Flightseeing Rarely do I use the large screen on the back of the camera to compose the shots but this time I did, holding the camera pointing down at the scenes as they passed below me. 30 minutes of amazing fun! Instant gratification when I got back on the ground. 2006 Hiking photos can be found here.  2004 Hiking photos in the same area. You can decide which set are the best.

Let's talk about making it possible for others to see our accomplishments. There are plenty of sites for family snapshots etc. but for the serious photographer, I would like to recommend Smugmug. The site is a bit overwhelming at first. Take a look at this page for examples of photo galleries. A favorite photographer of mine is George Barr from Calgary. Here are his galleries on Smugmug. I encourage you to view his Colour Landscape Galleries.
