Eleanor's PhotoBlog - Issue #1

Welcome to the first edition of Eleanor T. Culling's PhotoBlog     8/29/2006
After gathering the information for the Resource Page for the Wenatchee, WA camera club (Photography Association of Wenatchee - PAW) I've come to the realization that the page is now too long and some entries don't go into enough detail.
PAW Resource Page

I'll have a chance here to tell more about my personal involvement with photography. If you haven't visited my web site "Eleanor's Travels", here's the HOME PAGE. I haven't posted galleries of my recent trip quite yet.

If you wish to contribute articles and/or links to materials for inclusion please feel free to do so.
E-mail As I am doing, please supply links to further information.

The first entries are links to three outstanding photography web sites that I visit on a regular basis and strongly recommend (you could spend hours in each site) See Issue #5

My latest photoshoot to Glacier N.P. and Waterton Lakes N.P. (Canada)

I picked up a photography friend from California in Spokane, WA and drove east on Hwy 2 to the west side of Glacier National Park, Montana. The next day we headed over the Going to the Sun Road and took our first shots along the river north of Lake McDonald, before Logan Pass. The many turnoffs gave us plenty of photo ops. Going over the pass proved to be a disappointment because the glaciers are disappearing! Forest fires filled the sky most days with smoke. Grand scenics were not to be.
I took along a new SONY DSC-H5 (7.2 megapixels... but not an SLR) which I have recently purchased to use as light weight camera gear for my up-coming trip to the outback of Australia. (Full Review from DPReview) It was delightful to use and I quickly decided to use it in place of my DSLR Canon Rebel XT. With the Rebel it is a bit of a pain in the neck to switch parameters from color to black and white. Not so with the SONY - changing the menu items was quick and easy. In stead of making a black and white from a color capture I double shot many of the photos. In preparing them for galleries on my site I'm finding that the broader scenics are far more interesting in B & W than color.... see below.

Encouraged by the photos of George Barr, the Red Rock Canyon in Waterton N.P. proved to be the most interesting spot and we went there several times.

George Barr Fine Art Photography ... click on the Slideshow button on the far right side. Sit back and you can automatically watch all 89 exquisite photos. See photo 65 of 89 for my inspiration. With my interest in the red rocks of Utah and the SW, how could I not go there?

Notice how similar the rock in the middle of the two photos is ... almost a perfect 18% grey card.

More Information

We had the pleasure of meeting another Fine Art Photographer, Tom Willock at his gallery in the Village at Waterton Lakes. View this page for a sample of his work.   He wrote an interesting essay at the bottom of that page. You can definately see an Ansel Adams influence.
