Ulead has another great program that is free: Photo Explorer v.7. I can't tell you how often I use this! And as you can see you can customize the tool bar. Some of the icons are sort of silly looking - but that's OK!
I have notebooks full of printed thumbnail pictures of all the photography folders I have made. Download this program and explore all its possibilites! You'll love it!
Since writing this article several years ago Jasc has put out a new program ... Paint Shop Pro Album which competes with Photo Explorer. Read a review/tutorial.

There are numerous other programs that you need to be aware of and possibly want to choose additionally. These include Macromedia's Fireworks* which is absolutely necessary if your web building program is Dreamweaver. Download Irfanview - it's free and offers a slightly different twist to viewing and working with images.
* My program of choice for web graphics.

I wouldn't be without Microsoft's Photo Editor, an Office tool. It is invaluable for cutting out unwanted areas and for setting tranparency.

Panorama Factory is the best I know of for stitching photographs together. "The Panorama Factory is a panoramic stitching program. You can use it to create high-quality panoramas from a set of overlapping digital images from a single vantage point. The Panorama Factory seamlessly joins images into panoramas whose fields of view can range up to 360 degrees. In fact, you can make panoramas that exceed 360 degrees if you wish!"

Using Two Monitors - absolutely invaluable!

AND ... Using two modems to double your connection speed: Because I live out in the country I also have two 56 k modems and with two phone lines and Windows XP I can dial into my ISP from both lines at the same time and double my speed to 96 - 100Kbps. My two modems are: Best Data Data Fax Modem and U.S. Robotics 56K Fax Win modem. The two lines are 'bundled'. I understand that this works for some previous versions of Windows as well. Do a search for Diamond Dual Modem. Their SupraSonic II doesn't work with Windows XP. My 'tech guy' had to try several modems to find ones that worked with my U.S. Robotics.... trial and error.... 'til we got it right.
